Family Type is an independent type foundry based in Sydney, Australia.

The studio designs custom typefaces for global brands and agencies, alongside retail type families and experimental projects exploring the intersection of typography and technology. With a background in branding and digital design, Family Type approaches type as a core part of how organisations communicate and express their identity.

Our work is particularly focused on systems-driven typography and the evolving possibilities of variable fonts for modern digital products and brands.

Family Type's work has been recognised internationally, including receiving the only D&AD Black Pencil ever awarded to a typography project for Universal Sans, a customisable variable type platform that rethinks how type systems can be designed and used.
